welcome to science 4

On Thursday, July 27th LCC and I (GMB) went to Howe Caverns! It is close to Albany. The cave was discovered by Farmer Howe when his cows were standing next to a bush instead of his many trees. Mr. Howe realized that there was a cool draft coming up from there and that there was also an entrance to a cave. So he decided to explore it. Must have been pretty scary with no lights except for the one in his hand! When LCC and I first went into the cave it was very cold about 52 degrees (Fahrenheit) the water in the underground creek was 42 degrees. The tour guide told us that one time a mouse was on a rock that he thought was cheese because he couldn’t see anything and he was about to take a bite but he slipped and fell into the freezing water, than scurried up to the ceiling and froze there. I don’t believe that. How would they know? Anyway, there were lots stalactites and stalagmites, some were really big! We walked half a mile and took a eighth of a mile boat ride. The last thing we did was walk through the Winding Way. It was an extremely curvy path and it was really long. When we got out of the cave the sun hurt our eyes but it warmed us up a lot. Howe Caverns is awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In 4Y science we have been keeping Painted Lady Butterfly larvae. We have been keeping track of there growing and eating habits. We are on day six of
observing the larvae.   -LC&FD

Our larvae has grown very BIG and FAT!!!!
We took a big risk and put some of the larvae in the net before they were ready.
It was a give and take moment we lost some lives but it was worth it because otheres are going in to chrysalis it made us happy but at the same time sad.

Most of the PLB’ s are in a chrisallis, they are getting very big!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Our larvae are go into there crysalis. Painted lady butterfly’s are mostly living in viles but some had grown so much that they had to be put in the butterfly net we were taking a big risk but so far alot have survived.

In sience 4y Mrs. Morton-Johnsons class we are raising PLB painted lady butterfly. Some of them have started cucuns.

Painted Lady Butterflies form in four stages named metamorphosis.The stages are Egg,Larvae,Pupa (Chrysallis) and Adult.

in 4y we have been studing butterflies we have larvae in our classroom and most of them are going into there cocoon after that they will be PRETTY  LADY butterflies.                      4y mmm and can  

I got a vile with food, and larvi in it. now it is 7 days later, and they have started to form a crysalid. I can’t wait until the butterflys come out. MRM
